FakeAV or Fake AntiVirus, also known as ScareWare, is a class of malware that displays false alert messages to the user concerning threats that do not really exist. These alerts will prompt users to visit a website where they will be asked to pay for these non-existent threats to be cleaned up. The FakeAV will continue to send these annoying and intrusive alerts until a payment is made.
Rogue Security software is a form of computer malware that deceives or misleads users into paying for the fake or simulated removal of malware, or that installs other malware. Rogue security software, in recent years (2008-2011), has become a growing and serious security threat in desktop computing. Once the Rogue security software is downloaded onto the user's computer, the software will scare you into believing your system is infected with threats that do not really exist, and then push you into purchasing a services to clean up the non-existent threats. The Rogue security software will continue to send these annoying and intrusive alerts until a payment is made.
