A System of Care (SOC) is a network of programs and services delivered to children, youth & families.
Most communities have care services but do not function as one "system". SOC is an organizational philosophy that creates a framework for support recognizing that children and families have needs in many areas of life. SOC promotes a holistic approach in which all life needs are considered in planning. This empowers the child and family to determine the services they need with comfort in knowing that providers will work together to meet their needs. The SOC provides families the benefit to access a coordinated network of services and supports with a single comprehensive and individualized plan.

In 1802, Genesee County and the Town of Batavia were the same, encompassing much of Western New York. Within the first decades of the 1800s, new counties formed and broke away from Genesee, and towns formed and broke away from Batavia. Today Batavia contains two governments of its own as well as the seat of county government. We can explain some of our history by looking at the development of our hamlets.
The City of Batavia is located on the east end of town. There has been a concentration of development there since 1802 when Joseph Ellicott selected a spot where Seneca trails came together near a bend in the Tonawanda Creek for his land office and mill. This part of Batavia became a Village in 1821 in order to have fire protection. In 1914, the Village became a City. Today, the City has desirable neighborhoods and needier ones, countless businesses, many schools, churches, cemeteries, civic organizations, social activities, a hospital and a theater.

Coach Tony's Gourmet Hot Sauce
5 Union Pointe
Rochester, NY 14624
1-585-494-0070
Spencerport resident Tony Perry has been making and sharing his meat hot sauce for years and he has had countless requests to retail his sauce. Perry enjoyed the process of making the sauce but was apprehensive about marketing it until a friend convinced him that the sauce was too good not to be available to the public. A year and a half later, while juggling the responsibilities of being a husband, father of two, a baseball coach and a junior college baseball coach for Finger Lakes Community College, Perry decided the time was right to begin marketing his sauce.
In October 2004, after completing studies at Cornell University, Perry began remodeling a building in Bergen, NY to package the hot sauce. Jamie Lloyd, who has enjoyed Perry's sauce for years, along with some other friends, helped with the construction. The facility, Perry said, is one of only six USDA cannery manufacturing plants in New York State. The facility allows the opportunity for Perry to develop shelf-stable products for businesses and individuals.
Now Coach Tony's Gourmet Beef Hot Sauce can be purchased in all of the Rochester area Wegmans and at Calabresella Importers on Buffalo Road. Dominic Mammoliti of NYStyleDeli.com has been marketing the sauce on line. Mammoliti said he has seen, "an increasing interest in the product and sales across the nation." The sauce is made with more than 40 percent beef in every jar and is fully prepared. To enjoy, all that needs to be done is "heat and eat".

Adopt-A-Stream
410 White Spruce Blvd.
Rochester, NY 15623
1-585-234-1726
We invite concerned people like you to take an active role in assuring the well-being of your communities' water resources.
Water pollution affects us all. Although there are no easy remedies, correcting water pollution depends on a future generation of informed, concerned citizens. Adopt-A-Stream is an educational volunteer water quality monitoring program designed to help you, help young people, help your local waterway. Groups supported by local cosponsors (civic organizations, sportsmen's clubs or service clubs) agree to observe or evaluate their adopted waterway and take action together to improve their lake, stream, pond, or wetland.
Adopt-A-Stream is designed for volunteer groups, scouting groups, youth organizations and teachers to collect information about their waterway and put it to work. Correcting water pollution also depends on good information. Regular water quality testing provides a mechanism for detecting and documenting problem areas that might otherwise go undetected.
The program provides the framework so that you can plan a monitoring program that suits your objectives. Is there new construction adding sediment? A septic not functioning properly causing low oxygen levels and little life? Is runoff from impervious surfaces like parking lots and streets adding pollutants and litter?

Pierce Pettis
"A torrent of musical language that speaks to the head and the heart" -- The San Francisco Chronicle
After a lifetime of crafting finely-wrought, heart-touching songs, singer-songwriter Pierce Pettis feels that he's finally found his comfort zone. "The biggest change," he says of this point in his career "has been getting over myself and realizing this is a job and a craft. And the purpose is not fame and fortune (whatever that is) but simply doing good work."
"From the time I was very little, I always had the music going in my head," Pettis explains. "Like my own personal soundtrack or something. I also come from a fairly musical family: my mother went to music school and was an excellent organist and pianist. And my sisters all played piano and other instruments. In school, I met other kids who wanted to be rock stars, just like me. From the time we were around 10 or so up through high school, we put together various bands -- all of them horrible."
Pettis was a staff songwriter for PolyGram from 1993-2000 and when his High Street contract ended, Pettis signed to Compass Records where he has released Making Light of It (1996), Everything Matters (1998), State of Grace (2001), and Great Big World (2004). Pierce Pettis' songs have been recorded by artists including Susan Ashton, Dar Williams, Garth Brooks and Art Garfunkel.
Mike Travaglini
In Memory of Mike Travaglini
I did this site for everyone who knew Mike and for anyone to leave a message or thought about him. He will be missed and I will keep him in my heart forever. With our lose, I feel mourning a life does not feel right, life should be celebrated.
A traditional funeral service with black suits and quiet church music and people gathered around a casket or urn, is okay for some, but it is not favorable for many people. Sometimes mourning a life does not feel right. Life should be celebrated. It is a special day when people who loved a person get together and celebrate their life, happily, and remember the person as they were...alive, and vibrant.
Mike's Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on February 19th of 2010 at the Maynard Rod & Club starting at 5pm. Everyone is welcome to come and share your stories and memories of Mike. There will be an open bar and finger foods, you are welcome to bring a dish to pass and bring any photos or other items to share.
